Man Shot While Trying To Break Up Fight At Business In Hamden: Police

The man, who was working security, was hospitalized after being shot while trying to break up a fight, according to police.

HAMDEN, CT — A man who was working security was shot while trying to break up a fight during a party at a business in Hamden early Saturday morning, according to police.

Police responded around 4 a.m. on Jan. 17 to The District at 295 Treadwell Street on the report of a gunshot victim, according to Lt. Robert Manfield.

Manfield said arriving officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower abdomen. The victim was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for medical treatment, according to Manfield.

The victim was alert and conscious, and Manfield said the injury did not appear to be life-threatening, as of Saturday morning.

“Preliminary investigation indicates the incident occurred during a party inside the establishment, where two individuals became involved in a physical altercation,” Manfield wrote in a news release. “The victim, who was working security at the time, attempted to intervene and was shot during the incident.”

Detectives are investigating the shooting, and Manfield said there was no known ongoing threat to the public.

“This remains an active and ongoing investigation,” Manfield wrote. “Additional information will be released as it becomes available.”
