Man Told 12-Year-old Girl on Bike to Get Into His Vehicle: Hamden Police
The man initially told police that he didn't talk to any children but then said he told the girl to stay away from power tools, police said.

Hamden, CT — A Meriden man, who police say has an “extensive” criminal record, is accused of telling a 12-year-old girl to get into his vehicle, according to Hamden Police.
Hamden Police responded to the area of High Top Circle and Midhill Drive on the report of suspicious activity on June 21, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.
Smith said investigation revealed that a 12-year-old girl was riding her bicycle in the area, at which time an individual, who was operating a black Chevrolet Blazer, told her to get inside of the vehicle.

The vehicle subsequently fled from the area, after the juvenile refused his request, according to Smith.
Moments later, Sergeant Michael Cirillo observed the vehicle in the area of Dixwell Avenue and Church Street and conducted a motor vehicle stop.

Further investigation led to the arrest of the operator of the vehicle, Michael Roberts, 47, of Meriden, according to Smith.
Smith said Roberts initially told officers that he didn’t speak with any children and then changed his story, advising officers that he told the juvenile to stay away from power tools.
Roberts, of 168 Mount Pleasant Road in Meriden, was charged with risk of injury to a minor.
Roberts, who was detained on a $1,500 bond, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on July 6.
