Marriage Licenses By Appointment Only In Hamden

HAMDEN, CT — Hamden’s Town Clerk’s Office would like to make the public aware of the following information.

Effective July 22, 2024, marriage licenses will be by Appointment Only to reduce wait times, accommodating both election-related activities and the needs of those seeking marriage licenses.

Please call the Town Clerk's office at 203-287-7028 or email townclerk@hamden.com to schedule an appointment once you have completed the Marriage License Worksheet and met all requirements. The fillable worksheet can be found here: https://hamden.com/DocumentCenter/View/443/Marriage-License-Worksheet.

Important: Both parties must appear in person at the Town Clerk's office when applying for a marriage license.

Instructions for completing the Marriage License Worksheet:

• Must apply for the license in the town where the wedding ceremony will take place (Date and Location must be determined before applying for license).
• Spouses must personally appear before the Town Clerk before the license is issued.
• The name of the Officiant and contact information are required.
• As of October 1, 2015, Public Act 15-74 went into effect. This public act removes the requirement that an ordained minister "continue in the work of the ministry" to be authorized to perform marriages. Therefore, anyone who has become ordained through a traditional religious organization or online is authorized to perform marriages. The officiator will sign the marriage license after the ceremony and return the marriage license to the Hamden Town Clerk's office. (Couples are not allowed to return the completed marriage license to the Town Clerk's office)
• Valid government issued photo identification.
• Fee: $50 (cash or check payable to "Town of Hamden")
• Fee for Certified Copy: $20 (cash or check payable to "Town of Hamden")
• Hours of issuance: Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
• The license is valid for 65 days from the date of application.
• The above are State of Connecticut requirements. Refer to CGS §46b-24 to 46b-35.
