Mayor Includes Tax Cut In Proposed Hamden Budget

Hamden Mayor Curt Balzano Leng presented a budget proposal that includes the town's first tax cut in a decade.

HAMDEN, CT — Mayor Curt Balzano Leng has proposed a budget that includes the town’s first tax cut in a decade, according to the New Haven Register.

The Register reports Leng proposed a $22.3 million budget for 2017-18 to the Legislative Council this week that carries a 44.38 mill rate, one mill less than the current 45.38 mill rate.

The proposed budget includes $78 million for the Board of Education, but doesn’t include potential state education aid that could bring the total to about $85 million, and represents a 1.6 percent increase over this year’s school budget (the school board had sought a 2.4 percent increase), according to the Register.
