Mayoral Race Takes Shape for Special Election in Hamden

Three candidates will be on the ballot in May 28 special election.

The field is set for the May 28 special election to choose Hamden’s next mayor.

Current Chief Administrative Officer Curt Balzano Leng was selected by the Democratic Town Committee last week to be its candidate while retired firefighter Bob Anthony received the Republican party’s nod.

Democrat George Levinson will also be on the ballot after collecting the required signatures to run, according to Kate Ramunni of the New Haven Register.

Former Mayor Scott Jackson officially resigned on April 16 for a position with the state’s Office of Policy and Management and Legislative Council President James Pascarella is the town’s acting mayor.

The deadlines for registering for the special election (and other key information) are below:

Thursday, May 14

  • Last day to register by mail (postmark)
  • Last day to register at a public library, DMV or other agency
  • Last day to drop off completed registration forms to the Registrar of Voters

Wednesday, May 27 (12 NOON)

  • Last day to register in person at the Registrar of Voters Office, 2750 Dixwell Avenue, with exceptions*

Thursday, May 28

  • ELECTION DAY - Hours of voting 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

*A person who moves into town or becomes a US citizen May 15-May 28 may register in person at the Registrar’s Office up till Noon, Wednesday, May 27.

The same deadline applies to a person whose 18th birthday is May 15-May 28
