Murder Arrest Made In 1987 Killings Of Father, Son In Hamden

A man is being held on a $2 million bond after being charged with murdering a father and son in Hamden more than 30 years ago.

HAMDEN, CT — A New Haven man has been charged with murdering a father and son in Hamden more than 30 years ago, police announced Wednesday.

Willie McFarland, 52, of Norton Parkway, was arrested early Wednesday morning and charged with the Aug. 21, 1987 murders of Fred Harris, 59, and his son Gregory Harris, 23, who were killed inside of their home, located at 655 Fitch Street, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

“The Hamden Police Department has continued to investigate this heinous crime for over 32 years,” Smith said.

McFarland has been charged with two counts of murder. He was arraigned at Meriden Superior Court on Wednesday morning. He is being held on a court-ordered $2 million bond.
