HAMDEN, CT — Police are asking for help with identifying a man they say stole more than $17,000 worth of items, including lottery tickets and cigarettes, while working his first overnight shift alone at a gas station in Hamden. The theft took place at Go On Gas, 144 Arch St., in late January, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Management hired a “new overnight employee” and the store owner used an app on his cell phone to view the store cameras during the man’s first solo shift, according to Smith. The owner quickly realized that the new employee had left the store.

The owner immediately responded to the store and found that the new employee had stolen numerous items including lottery tickets, 89 boxes of cigarettes and money, Smith said. The total loss was valued at $17,183.

Smith said the man also stole his employment folder, which contained his personal information, so the store owner doesn’t know his name.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Jay Bunnell at 203-230-4030.
