Obituary: Alfred John Carbone Jr. ‘Al,’ 80, Of Hamden

HAMDEN, CT — (From Sisk Brothers Funeral Home): Alfred John Carbone Jr. "Al," 80, of Hamden, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. Beloved husband of Valerie Baker Carbone of 47 years.

Loving father of Heather Hurlbut (Brian) of Cheshire, and Meaghan (Frankie) Carbone of Hamden. Also survived by his cherished granddaughters Anna and Grace Hurlbut. Predeceased by a sister Beverly Dial. Al was born in New Haven on November 1, 1943 and was the son of the late Alfred John Carbone, Sr. and Anna Toben.

Al graduated from Hamden High School and Quinnipiac College in 1972. In 2015, he retired as Associate Dean of Admissions for Quinnipiac University. He was a member of the Quinnipiac community for 45 years, his colleagues were his family.

He was a generous and devoted friend to all. He could be found at QU Hockey games and traveled with the team often to places like Tampa for the NCAA Finals and Italy.

Al enjoyed gardening, tanning by his pool, going to the beach, vacationing in Misquamicut and Disney, and spending time with his family and friends. But most of all, he cherished his time with his granddaughters. He loved to go to all their school activities and sporting events. He never missed a game!

Al’s family would like to thank and acknowledge the staff for their loving care at Marbridge Memory Care of Cheshire and St. Francis Hospital.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated Wednesday at 12 noon at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be at Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Ave., Hamden Wednesday from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m.
