He enjoyed a long career in international finance, but is perhaps best remembered for his love & support of the arts & philanthropic legacy.
HAMDEN, CT — (Contributed): George S. Warburg, only son of the late Sir Siegmund Warburg and Lady Eva Warburg, and husband of the late Elinor (“Ellie”) Bliss Bozyan Warburg, died peacefully at home, aged 95, in Hamden, CT on July 6, 2023. He was lovingly supported to the end by his sons, Daniel, Michael, and John, his daughters-in-law, Katrina and Sarah, and his grandchildren, Jacob (and wife Elaine), Mark, George, Katie, Eva, and Lucy. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Anna Biegun, and her family in Tel Aviv.
Born in the U.S., but raised in Germany and England, George spent the last 45 years of his life in Hamden, his wife’s childhood hometown. He enjoyed a long career in international finance, but is perhaps best remembered for his love and support of the arts, as well as the extraordinary generosity he showed to so many members of his adopted community in the greater New Haven area. His philanthropic legacy lives on in the form of the Apple Pickers Foundation, which he and Ellie established to support local initiatives in the arts, education, and healthcare, among other fields.
There will be a private family interment. Donations in his memory can be made to the Palliative Care Fund at Yale New Haven Health: https://www.givetoynhh.org/ways-to-give/support-our-funds/donate-palliative-care-fund/.
