HAMDEN, CT — (From Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home): Irving D. Baer, 101, of Hamden, CT and Miami Beach, FL passed away at Whitney Center in Hamden on March 19, 2024.

Born in New Haven on January 16, 1923, he was a son of the late Morris and Esther (Iskowitz) Baer. Irving was predeceased by his cherished wife Mary (Riley) Baer, his brother Joseph Edward Baer and his sister Shirley Frances Baer.

He is survived by his loving family; his daughter Maryanne Baer-Hines and her husband Peter, Ret. NoHPD, of North Haven, CT; his sons Buddy Baer and his wife Mary Ann of Prospect, CT and John Baer and his wife Diane of Naples, FL; and his grandsons Daniel Baer of Prospect and Casey Baer of Seattle, WA.

A graduate of Cheshire Academy, Irving was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Islands of Iwo Jima and Saipan.

Irving was the owner/operator of Baer Dress Manufacturing for many years, subsequently working in the garment industry as quality control in New York City until his retirement.

His family was very important to him, he loved spending time with and helping them in any way he could. He was an extremely generous man to his family and friends. Whenever possible, he enjoyed spending his winters in Miami Beach, FL. Irving’s family would like to thank the staff at Whitney Center for the care he received during his time of need.

Friends may attend his Prayer Service on Friday, March 22nd at 1:30 p.m. at Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Burial will follow at Centerville Cemetery, Hamden. Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association at: www.heart.org.
