Obituary: Jean Ann Murray, 93, Of Hamden
A longtime crossing guard, Jean worked as the animal control officer for the Town of Hamden for 27 years until her retirement in 2006.

HAMDEN, CT — (From Sisk Brothers Funeral Home): Jean Ann Murray (Mellor), 93, of Hamden passed away peacefully, at home, on Tuesday, January 17, 2023. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas Murray, whom she met while he was serving in World War II, and stationed in England.
Jean was born in Stoke-on-Trent, England on March 20, 1929 and was the daughter of the late John and Emily Mellor.
Jean worked as the animal control officer for the Town of Hamden for 27 years until her retirement in 2006. Jean loved all animals and had a special talent for interacting with animals and gaining their trust. Prior to that, she was a crossing guard for the Town of Hamden for 18 years, keeping countless students safe and bringing a smile to their faces daily.

Jean was also an auxiliary state trooper for the CT State Police, serving at Troop I in Bethany in the 1970’s. Jean loved spending time with friends, especially the members of her English club, many whom were British war brides like her.
Jean is survived by two sons, James, with whom she resided, in Hamden, and Joseph (Mary) of Wallingford, CT. She is the loving grandmother of Joseph and Jonathan Murray. Jean is also survived by two brothers and a sister, Michael, Paul, and Susan, as well as several nieces and nephews, both in the U.S. and in England. Jean was predeceased by a son, Thomas F. Murray, and two brothers, John and Denis Mellor. She also leaves behind her beloved pet dog Bear.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Ave. Hamden. Interment will follow in Beaverdale Memorial Park in Hamden, CT. Visitation will be Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of service. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Hamden Animal Shelter Gift Fund c/o Police Chief Timothy Wydra, Hamden Police Department, 2900 Dixwell Ave, Hamden, CT 06518.
