Obituary: John Chase, 82, of Hamden

John Chase, 82, of Hamden, passed away peacefully in his home on December 31, 2017. Born on September 7, 1935 in Oskaloosa, IA to the late Chester and Harriet Butler Chase. He was a proud graduate of Grinnell College and continued his education at MIT, where he received his PhD. in Inorganic Nuclear Chemistry.

John spent his career working as a clinical chemist and was a quality control coordinator for the department of Laboratory Medicine at Yale-New Haven Hospital retiring after 35 years of service in 2005. He was also the hospital’s Education Coordinator for the Clinical Laboratory Science Program at Quinnipiac University.

John was an avid Bobcat fan and when able, enjoyed attending Quinnipiac hockey games with his friends as well as Yale hockey games. Each year he looked forward to the UCONN Women’s basketball season. He delighted in his morning senior coffee and a JB special pizza on occasion. Especially cherished were Sunday afternoons spent with his son and visiting his daughter and family in Massachusetts.

John is survived by his children, Susan Onofrio and her husband Russell of Hopkinton, MA and David Chase of New Haven; granddaughters, Courtney Onofrio of Milford and Allison Onofrio of Hopkinton, MA; sister, ArmaJo Allen and her husband Paul of Council Bluffs, IA; nephews, Daniel Allen and his wife Marcia of IA and Randall Allen and his wife Victoria of CO and their families.

Friends are invited to visit with his family on Friday, January 5th from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Burial will be private.
