Obituary: John F. Lynch, 74, Of Hamden

A decorated U.S. Army veteran during the Vietnam era, he worked for the Southern Connecticut Gas Company for over 40 years until retirement.

HAMDEN, CT — (From North Haven Funeral Home): John F. Lynch, 74, a lifelong resident of Hamden, passed away on Sunday, September 17th, 2023, at his home. Born in New Haven on October 9th, 1948, he was the son of the late Vincent and Frances Harten Lynch.

John served his country faithfully in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era as an Infantry Man in the 1st Air Calvary Division, Specialist 4 and was the recipient of the National Defense Service, Vietnam Service, Vietnam Campaign, Air, and Bronze Star Medals, the Combat Infantry Badge and was a Rifle Sharpshooter. He had worked for the Southern Connecticut Gas Company for over 40 years until his retirement.

Father of Jamie (Stu) Hawkins. Grandfather of Lily and Rosie Hawkins. Brother of Vincent Lynch and Kathy Wanat. Also survived by his partner and caregiver of 23 years Robin Gengaro, and all of his beloved nieces & nephews.

The visiting hours will be Friday, Sept. 22 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. Family and friends are invited to go directly to Blessed Sacrament Church/St. Paul VI Parish, 321 Circular Avenue, Hamden on Saturday morning, Sept. 23 at 10:30 a.m. to attend a Mass of Christian burial. Military honors will immediately follow the Mass in the front of the church. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
