Obituary: Jon Himes Sr., 73, Of Hamden

HAMDEN, CT — (From Hamden Memorial Funeral Home): Jon Himes Sr., 73, of Hamden, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2023. Jon was born on June 27, 1949, to Edward and Greta Himes in New Haven, CT.

Jon was a Radio Teletype Operator with the U.S. Army, earning a National Defense Medal. Jon was also an avid sports fan, he especially loved his NY Yankees and UCONN Basketball.

He was actively involved with Hamden Father's Baseball and Basketball Programs for many years. You could always find him on the field coaching, umpiring, checking on his past players or at the court.

Jon was always telling a story when you saw him or keeping his players laughing at tournament's. He will be missed.

He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Greta Himes as well as his sister, Geryl Himes and brother's Eddie and Jimmy Himes. He is survived by his children Carrie and Jon (Stephanie), sister Patricia Camputaro (Dominic), grandchildren Natalie & Isabella Himes along with several nieces and nephews whom he loved and adored.

Services will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Hamden Memorial Funeral Home. Military burial will be held privately for the family on Friday, January 13, 2023.
