Obituary: Michael P. Cunningham, 75, of Hamden

Michael, passionate about learning and reading, was an accomplished landscaper, gardener and member of numerous horticultural organizations.

HAMDEN, CT - (From Hamden Memorial Funeral Home) Michael P. Cunningham of Hamden died on January 23rd 2021 at Yale New Haven Hospital after a brief illness.

He leaves behind his beloved partner of 37 years, Dr. Fred Koerner, as well as a brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Robin Cunningham of Iowa.

Michael was a man of many interests and talents. He was an accomplished landscaper and gardener and was a member of numerous horticultural organizations.

He was an avid reader and lifelong learner and received a Master's Degree from Yale Divinity School in 1988. He was subsequently ordained as a Minister in the United Church of Christ.

Pursuing a passionate interest in philosophy and religion, he spent three years at the University of Oxford immersed in these subjects from 1989 to 1992. Michael earned a Master's Degree in Philosophy from Fordham University in 1998.

Michael will be remembered as a keenly intelligent, kind, sweet man full of enthusiasm for life. He will be missed.

The extraordinarily loving care that Michael received during his last years from Dr. Daphne Evans, and from Natalie Layne, Marisol Vega and Judy Rodriguez is gratefully acknowledged.
