Obituary: Patricia Ann Nichols, 76; Formerly Of Hamden

She was the first female computer programmer at the United Illuminating, where she worked for 35 years.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — (From North Haven Funeral Home): Patricia Ann Nichols, 76, of North Haven, passed away peacefully with her husband by her side on March 13, 2022. She was raised in Hamden and one of five children from the late Dr. Charles Sommers and Shirley (Shannon) Sommers.

Patty is survived by her husband, Robert Nichols, of 45 years, and 3 daughters: Deborah Ainsworth, Susan Bennett, and Katherine (Alex) Biro, and 5 grandchildren: Genna, Ethan, Charlotte, Anthony, and Kayla. She leaves behind her siblings Susan (Nick) Marinello, Charles Sommers, Steve (Diane) Sommers, and John Sommers as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was the first woman Computer Programmer at the United Illuminating, where she worked for 35 years. Pat and Bob raised their children in North Haven. They camped at Gardner Lake with the kids every summer. She was a member of the North Haven Women’s Club and PTA, and enjoyed puzzles, quilting, and crosswords.

Upon retirement, Pat loved spending time with her grandkids, who she loved tremendously. From soccer and baseball games to recitals to time by the pool, Pat loved every moment.

The visiting hours will be on Friday morning, March 18, at The Havens Family, North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. A service will be conducted in the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. Memorial contributions can be made at the American Cancer Society (https://www.cancer.org/) in her honor.
