Obituary: Robert (Bob) Hammerbacher, 74; Formerly Of Hamden

Bob was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he served honorably in the Air Force. He was an avid golfer and did his best to play daily.

HAMDEN, CT — (From Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services): Robert (Bob) Charles Hammerbacher of The Villages, Florida, passed away at the age of 74 on Thursday, July 29. He was the son of the late Edward & Mary Hammerbacher.

He is survived by his children Thomas Hammerbacher of Folsom, CA, Sara Hammerbacher Callahan and her husband Craig Callahan of Wallingford, CT, his brother Edward Hammerbacher, several nieces, and his many friends from The Villages.

Bob was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he served honorably in the Air Force. Bob’s experience in the Air Force played a very important role in his life as it led him into a career in the telecommunications industry.

Born in Baltimore Maryland, he spent most of his life in Connecticut before retiring to Florida.

Bob was an avid golfer and did his best to play daily. His most memorable round was at The Nancy Lopez Legacy Country Club in The Villages on July 8th 2011 where on hole number 2 he got his first hole-in-one. Donations may be made in Bob’s name to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org).
