Obituary: Robert H. Marler Jr., 79; Longtime West Haven Teacher

HAMDEN, CT — (From Hamden Memorial Funeral Home): Robert Howard Marler Jr., 79, of Hamden, passed away on December 7, 2022, at YNHH. He was born on August 20, 1943 in New Haven, CT., son of the late Antoinette (Toni) and Robert Marler Sr. He was the beloved husband of Janice (Buschi) Marler for over 45 years.

Loving father of Lauren Marler, Allison Fallon, and Victoria (Elif Erik) Marler. Cherished grandfather of Jason Cole, Julie Cole, Susanna Cole, Jaedyn Fallon, and Cameron Murdock. Also survived by one sister-in-law Donna LaPiana. Predeceased by one sister-in-law Kathleen Proto.

Robert was an English Teacher at West Haven High School for 32 years. He loved collecting movies, especially foreign films and very old films. He loved theater.

He met Janice while working as the assistant director during the play Cinderella where Janice played the fairy godmother. He kept coming around, asking if she wanted more soda. The soda machine had broken, and that started them talking.

Eventually that led to marriage. He loved going to NYC plays with Janice, and Newport, RI during their later years.

Robert will be remembered also by his sense of humor and being a very good teacher.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2022 at Hamden Memorial Funeral Home, 1300 Dixwell Avenue, Hamden, from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Rita’s Church, Hamden, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in West Haven.
