Acclaimed Operatic Soprano Yayoi Ikuno to perform free concert at Quinnipiac University on April 9

HAMDEN – Acclaimed operatic soprano Yayoi Ikuno, along with cellist Kayla Hermann and pianist Anchie Donn, will perform a free community concert, “Chanson D’Amour, An Evening of Romantic Song,” at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, at the Theatre Arts Center at Quinnipiac University, 515 Sherman Ave. The program, which is part of the Frank J. Natale Music Series, is free, but seating is limited. Reserve tickets at chanson.brownpapertickets.com.
The program will include opera arias like “O Silver Moon” from Dvorak’s “Rusalka” and “Vissi d’arte” from Puccini’s Tosca, as well art songs in four languages by Lili Boulanger, Amy Beach, Sergei Rachmaninoff and others.
Ikuno is a soprano who made her debut as the title role in G. Verdi’s “AIDA” at the Teatro Comunale di Belluno in Italy, just three years after she began studying voice. She has played prima donna roles on stages throughout the world, including “Cosi fan tutte” (Fiordiligi), “I Pagliacci” (Nedda), “Tosca” (title role), “Carmen” (Michaela), “Andrea Chénier” (Maddalena), “Simon Boccanegra” (Amelia), “Un Ballo in Maschera” (Amelia) and “Nabucco” (Abigaille).
The Frank J. Natale Music Series brings talented performers from a variety of musical backgrounds, including jazz, classical and contemporary music styles, to the Mount Carmel Campus each year.
