Original Tommy K’s To See New Life In Hamden
The building that housed the state's first Tommy K's Video store was recently sold in Hamden.
HAMDEN, CT — The original Tommy K’s Video store on Dixwell Avenue in Hamden will see new life as a liquor store, according to the New Haven Independent.
The Independent reports the owners of A.L.K. Wine and Liquors recently bought the building for $300,000 and plan to move their store there. A.L.K. Wine and Liquors is currently located across the street at 1651 Dixwell Avenue.
Tom Kelleher opened his Tommy K’s Video store at 1636 Dixwell Avenue in the house where he grew up and where his parents operated a music store on the ground floor. He told the Independent that he has kept the Tommy K’s Video sign on the building long after the store closed because the town’s zoning laws used to be more relaxed about sign size and the new owners will be grandfathered into the old regulations.
