Out For Season, Hamden Hall's Shelton Still Shines
Hamden Hall senior boys' lacrosse goalie and captain out for season at doctors' request, still active with team.
"They don't come around very often," says varsity lacrosse coach A.J. Raccio. "Kids like him, they just don't make them like him too often."
The expression is written on Andrew Shelton's face as he watches his team from the sidelines.
A history of concussions compiled with an injury last season forced Shelton's doctors' to highly recommend he not play this year. After 11 years of playing lacrosse, Shelton now has to watch the team he's played with for years take the field without him.

Despite the emotional setback of sitting out, Shelton has found a way to stick close to the game he loves by attending all practices and helping instruct younger players.
"I'm not happy about it," says Shelton. "But I'm dealing with the best I can."

His coach couldn't ask for anything more.
"He's so important to the team now as a motivator," says Raccio. "There's so much fire in him. He comes out every day and does whatever he has to do. He's just a class kid."
