Overnight Brush Fire Investigated In Hamden
The fire occurred in the woods behind a condominium complex early Tuesday morning.

HAMDEN, CT — Fire officials are investigating an overnight brush fire that occurred in the woods behind the Regency Hills condominium complex on Tuesday. No injuries were reported in the fire, which crews extinguished after almost two hours of work, according to Deputy Chief Gary Merwede.
A resident at the Regency Hills Complex, located at 306 Pine Rock Avenue, reported that they could see “flames in the woods” behind the complex, according to Merwede. Engine 2 from Circular Avenue was dispatched and arrived on scene at 3 a.m.
“Lieutenant Daryl Oseicki located the fire approximately 200 feet from the Regency Hills parking lot, but determined the best access point to be through the rear yards of the homes located on the eastern side of Midhill Drive,” Merwede said in a press release.

Engine 3 from Hartford Turnpike was dispatched to assist with water supply and manpower.
“Crews working the wooded acreage found brush, leaves, and fallen trees in various states of combustion, some smoldering, with flare-ups throughout the area as the wind picked up,” Merwede said. “Narrow paths were found through the burned-out area and discarded trash indicated people have been there recently.

“Firefighters stretched more than 400 feet of hose to attack the fire and used hand tools to rake down through the burning debris. After almost two hours of work, crews were able to extinguish the fire and return to quarters.”
Merwede said the rain later in the day would also assist in soaking down the affected area.
No structures were directly threatened as a result of this fire and no injuries were reported, according to Merwede.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Hamden Fire Marshal’s office. Anyone with information is asked to contact Fire Marshal Brian Dolan at 203-407-3182.
