Pair Stole Bottle of Tequila, Pushed Liquor Store Owner while Fleeing Scene: Hamden Police

The man and woman were promptly apprehended and face robbery charges, according to police.

HAMDEN, CT — A Hamden man and woman face robbery charges after police say they stole a bottle of tequila and pushed the liquor store owner before fleeing the scene.

Hamden Police responded to Wine Merchant Liquor Store, located at 2300 Dixwell Avenue, at about 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 29 on the report of a robbery, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said investigation revealed that Joshua Medina and Dejeune Bishop attempted to leave the store without paying for a bottle of tequila. The owner of the store attempted to prevent their escape by locking the front door but both Medina and Bishop subsequently pushed him and fled, according to Smith.

Moments later, Lt. Tim Wydra located the pair in a vehicle in the vicinity of 2165 Dixwell Avenue. He promptly took them into custody.

The stolen bottle of tequila was recovered from inside of the vehicle, according to Smith.

Medina, 26, and Bishop, 27, both of the 100 block of Filbert Street in Hamden, were each charged with second-degree robbery and sixth-degree larceny. They were each detained on $5,000 bonds and are scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Dec. 13.
