Parking Ban Announced In Hamden

Officials announce that a parking ban will be in effect, the transfer station will be closed and warming centers will be open.

HAMDEN, CT — A parking ban will be in effect in Hamden beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15 until 12 noon on Friday, Nov. 16, Mayor Curt Balzano Leng and Public Works Director Craig Cesare announced. The parking ban prohibits any person to park, or allow to remain parked, any vehicle on any odd numbered portion of a town street or highway.

The ban further prohibits any person to allow or permit a vehicle to stand or park on any town street or highway in such a manner as to constitute a hazard or obstruction to vehicular or pedestrian traffic. The Hamden Police Department is authorized, pursuant to Section 71.07 of the Code of the Town of Hamden, to remove any vehicle parked in violation of this ordinance. Such removal shall be at the risk and expense of the owner of the vehicle.

Additionally, the Hamden Transfer Station will be closed, effective Nov. 15, until further notice.

Officials also announced that warming centers will be offered around town to those in need. All Hamden Fire Stations and the Police Department front foyer will all serve as 24-hour warming centers. Additionally, during normal operating hours (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.), the Keefe Center, Town Libraries, the foyer of the Police Department and the Government Center Building will also serve as warming center locations. Operating hours for the Miller Library are 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. Monday-Wednesday, 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, and closed on Sundays.
