PD: Wanted Hamden Man Tracked by GPS Leads Cops to Gun Arrest

The GPS led police to the man inside a barbershop. A struggle ensued with another man who allegedly had a gun.

A Hamden man wanted on an outstanding warrant was successfully tracked using his probation GPS, but that wouldn’t be the only arrest officers would make that day.

Tauheed Harvey, 28, of Hamden was wanted on an outstanding warrant for violating a protective order from a past domestic case, said Officer David Hartman, New Haven Police spokesman. Officers and a probation officer tracked him using his GPS bracelet to a Shelton Avenue barber shop.

He was found standing in the doorway and was arrested on the spot, Hartman said. Three bags of marijuana, money and a cellphone were confiscated.

Seven men were in the barber shop and one sat alone in the corner, appeared nervous and kept his hands in his pockets, according to Hartman.

Officers approached the man, identified as Brennan Coleman, 19, of New Haven and asked him to remove his hands from his pockets. He refused and tried grabbing something from his waistband, Hartman said.

A struggle ensued and an officer saw that Coleman had a gun in his waistband. The serial number was scratched off.

Coleman was arrested and charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, altering identifying markers on a pistol and interfering with police.

Harvey was charged with second-degree threatening violating a protective order and possession of marijuana.
