ID Released of Man Struck and Killed by Car in Hamden Sunday: UPDATE

Police say the driver stayed at the scene and called 911 to report the accident.

HAMDEN, CT — A 58-year-old Hamden man was struck and killed by a vehicle early Sunday morning, police said.

Police Capt. Ronald Smith said in a news release that at approximately 2 a.m. Sunday Hamden Police responded to the area of Dixwell and Oregon Avenues on the report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle.

Upon arrival officers located Harris Tendler, 58, of Hamden, at the accident site, police said. Hamden Fire Rescue responded and rendered medical assistance. Tendler was declared dead by paramedics, police said. His body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Farmington for an autopsy.

Investigation revealed that Tendler was attempting to cross Dixwell Avenue when he was struck by a motor vehicle that was traveling northbound on Dixwell Avenue, police said. The driver of the vehicle, Piercey Lane, 70, of Bridgeport, stopped immediately and contacted emergency personnel, police said. Lane was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
