Pedestrian Struck, Killed By Vehicle In Hamden: Police

The pedestrian was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street Thursday night in Hamden, according to police.

HAMDEN, CT — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle while crossing the street Thursday night in Hamden, according to police.

Police responded to the area of Dixwell Avenue and Beacon Street around 7 p.m. on March 9 on the report of a crash involving a pedestrian, according to Sgt. Angela Vey.

Vey said the investigation found that John Gursky, 67, of Hamden, was crossing Dixwell Avenue when he was struck by a vehicle traveling south. Gursky was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving, according to Vey.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured, Vey said.

The Hamden Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team responded, and Dixwell Avenue was closed for several hours due to the investigation. The road has since reopened and the crash remains under investigation, according to Vey.
