Police: Man Shot Victim in the Groin During Fight Behind Hamden Bar

Hamden police make arrest for the incident that took place in January.

Hamden police have charged a New Haven man for shooting another man in the groin during a fight that took place behind a bar this past January.

With the help of the United States Marshal Service Connecticut Violent Fugitive Task Force, Hamden police arrested Michael Turner on Thursday, Capt. Ronald Smith said in a press release.

Hamden police responded to the area of Dixwell Avenue and Morse Street on the report of a shooting in the Jan. 10 incident.

Investigation revealed that the 24-year-old victim and his girlfriend were walking on Dixwell Avenue, when they were approached by an individual.

A verbal altercation ensued and moments later, the victim and the individual proceeded behind a Hamden bar to fight.

Smith said the victim was subsequently shot in the groin and the suspect fled on foot southbound on the Farmington Canal Trail.

The victim was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Detective Jomo Crawford conducted an extensive investigation that led to the application of an arrest warrant for Turner.

Turner, 27, of 171 Butler Street in New Haven, was charged with first-degree assault, criminal use of a firearm and criminal possession of a firearm.

Turner is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on March 26.
