HAMDEN, CT — A popular longtime gift shop will be closing its doors in Hamden next month. The owners of Dava, located at 2100 Dixwell Ave. in the Hamden Plaza, recently announced that the shop will be closing on Sept. 14.

“We are so sad to announce that our lease is ending and we will be closing our shop on September 14th,” according to a post on Facebook. “We thank you all for shopping with us over the past 38 years and for sharing in the Dava love. We will miss you all! Please come visit us and receive 30% off clothing and 20% off everything else including jewelry!”

Dava first opened in 1981 and “specializes in woman’s clothing and unique, handmade jewelry,” according to its website. For more than 30 years Dava has been “bringing our loyal customers the best from the United States and abroad–with a specific focus on artisans and companies with socio-political consciousness,” the website states. “Dāva also carries the work of over 50 local artisans, ranging from jewelers to photographers to potters.”

I’ve always loved your magical vibes. I just bought something at Dava last week!! I hope you find a new location soon!! I hope this is just a ‘see you soon’ and not a full goodbye! Good luck!! thank you for the positive vibes throughout the years.”

Another person wrote, “Like one of the others who commented, I absolutely HATE shopping, but I LOVE going to Dava and have been for many, many years. Always able to find unique gifts, wonderful salespeople, great jewelry and items from local artisans - I could go on and on. I hope you will consider reopening somewhere else - there's no place like Dava!!”
