HAMDEN, CT — The owner of a popular online bakery is opening her first retail shop in Hamden.
Jodi Seidner, owner and founder of Sweet Seidner's Bake Shop, is opening her flagship bake shop at 2565 Whitney Avenue in Hamden. A grand-opening ceremony is scheduled for 12 noon on Tuesday, June 14.
For the past five years, Seidner has baked and shipped cookies and confections through her direct-to-consumer site from a commercial kitchen. Now, for the first time, she said you can purchase her signature treats right out of the oven four days a week.

Since 2015, Seidner’s sweets have been “helping college students get through midterms and finals by assisting parents in sending a little love in the mail from home,” according to a news release. Sweet Seidner's regularly partners with sororities, fraternities and other organizations, to create fundraising programs that raise money for those organizations.
The bake shop's sales have quadrupled over the past two years, according to Seidner.

“It was time to expand and open a retail shop to complement the online business,” she said. “Having a retail store helps us expand our offerings beyond colleges and organizations. I want to be the go-to bakery in our corner of Connecticut."
Sweet Seidner’s has been part of the Hamden business community since its inception in 2015 and was awarded a Chamber Choice Award in 2018 by the Hamden Regional Chamber of Commerce as Home Base Business of the Year in 2018.
Members of the Hamden business community are excited to have Seidner opening a shop in the community.
“As a self-employed, woman-owned business in the Hamden community, we heartily welcome Sweet Seidner’s Bake Shop with their passion and delicious baked goods to this town,” Jeanne Stracener, owner of Interior Source, said in the news release. “Sweet Seidner’s baked goods are second to none and will be the place we shop for all kinds of treats.”
Classic Chocolate Chunk, Snickerdoodles and Oatmeal Raisin cookies are just a few of the traditional varieties baked daily. Sweet Seidner’s offers a “wide variety of specialty treats including rugelach, coconut macaroons, Black & White cookies and exquisitely hand-decorated sugar cookies for all occasions – birthdays, weddings, mitzvahs, graduations, baby showers, Mother’s/Father’s Day, and more,” the news release states.
Seidner also has plans to expand her Jewish confections, which currently include Apple Cake and Honey Cake for Rosh Hashanah, Hamantaschen for Purim, and macaroons all year round. The bakery is also certified kosher dairy by KVH of Boston.
Seidner first got the idea for the bake shop during her freshman year in college when her roommate’s grandmother sent them cookies every week.
"Seeing my roommate walk through the door with a brown-paper wrapped package always brought a smile to my face," she said. “We would stop whatever we were doing and indulge in the heavenly flavor of homemade cookies. It was like getting a hug in the mail."
Sweet Seidner's is located at 2565 Whitney Avenue in Hamden, and will be open Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.
