Possible School Closures Set For Vote Tonight In Hamden
The Board of Education is expected to vote on its restructuring plan that could bring sweeping changes to the district tonight (Nov. 29).

HAMDEN, CT — The Hamden Board of Education is expected to vote on its restructuring plan that could bring sweeping changes to the school district at a special meeting tonight (Thursday, Nov. 29). WTNH News 8 reports that two schools, Church Street Elementary and Shepard Glen Elementary, could close under the plan. The town could also take back the Wintergreen Interdistrict Magnet school building, which it owns, and incorporate it into the school district. The students currently attending Wintergreen, which is run by ACES, would be affected by the action.
The Wintergreen building could be a “great asset for our school system,” according to a post on the school board’s website highlighting the goals of the restructuring plan. “Some of our existing school buildings are not as modern in their design, which limits our use of them, and others currently require significant and costly structural improvements.”
WTNH News 8 reports parents, teachers and students from the three elementary schools that would be affected by the restructuring plan packed Wednesday night’s board meeting and expressed their concerns. To sign up for Hamden breaking news alerts and more, click here.
