Quinnipiac Condemns Controversial ‘Blackface’ Photo

The university says it has acted swiftly in response to an offensive photo that caused a stir on social media from an apparent student.

HAMDEN, CT — Quinnipiac University has condemned an offensive photo that was making the rounds on social media on Tuesday in which an apparent student shared a photo of herself in blackface with the caption “Black lives matter.”

"The university takes this matter very seriously and acted swiftly to discipline those responsible for the offensive photo,” Quinnipiac said in a statement. “This incident does not reflect the true nature of our university, where we have a long history of zero tolerance for any acts of racism, hatred or bigotry.”

It was unclear where the photo originated from since it was shared on several different social media platforms.

NBC Connecticut reports that a roommate of the girl in the photo took the picture, wrote the “Black lives matter” caption and posted it on social media. The roommate is facing disciplinary action and not the girl in the photo, according to NBC Connecticut.
