Quinnipiac University Student Dies in Car Accident on Her Way to Mass. Fireworks Show

The Quinnipiac University student from Massachusetts was in a car when the brakes apparently stopped working, which caused the crash.

Milford, MA — Five people were injured and a 19-year-old year Quinnipiac University student, who lived in Milford, Massachusetts, died following a car crash Sunday night.

Police tell WHDH that the SUV crash took out a telephone pole and happened around 11 p.m. on Congress Street. Jacqueline Gray, 19, who attended Quinnipiac University, was pronounced dead at the hospital Monday.

Police say the six were on their way to the Milford fireworks from an ice cream shop in Upton. The driver told police that the brakes of the SUV didn't work. Police are investigating the possibility of mechanical error.

WTNH News 8 reports that after the brakes failed the driver, who told everyone inside the car that they should jump out.

The Boston Herald reports that the accident occurred close to Gray's house and her mother rushed out and performed CPR in an effort to save her. Gray later died as a result of her injuries at UMass Memorial Medical Center on Monday. The five others in the vehicle were treated and released for their injuries.

Gray was an accomplished dancer, the Boston Herald reports.

Quinnipiac University released the following statement Monday.

“It was with profound sadness that we informed our university community today about the loss of Jacqueline Gray, a member of the Class of 2019 who was a dean’s list student majoring in psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences. There are no words to adequately express our sympathy to Jacqueline’s family and friends.”
