Raccoon Attacks Woman, 84, In Hamden: Police

An 84-year-old woman was attacked by a raccoon while she was gardening, according to police.

HAMDEN, CT — An 84-year-old woman was attacked by a raccoon while she was gardening Monday afternoon in Hamden, according to police. The incident occurred at about 4 p.m. on Oct. 7 on Vantage Road.

The victim’s daughter called police and reported that her 84-year-old mother had been bitten by a raccoon. The victim told police that the raccoon “attacked” her and bit her on the hand while she was gardening, according to Capt. Ronald Smith. Her daughter intervened and prevented further injuries.

The victim was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for medical treatment, according to Smith.

Hamden Police and Animal Control Officers searched the area but couldn’t find the raccoon, Smith said.
