Raccoon Gets Head Stuck In Can, Rescued By Hamden Animal Control

Police received several calls about a very young raccoon that was being closely followed by a cat and had its head stuck inside a can.

HAMDEN, CT — A young raccoon that had its head stuck inside of a metal can was rescued by the Hamden Animal Control early Friday morning, according to police.

Police received several calls around 6 a.m. on July 24 regarding an animal in distress in the Aspen Glen Condominium Complex parking lot, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said the callers reported seeing a “very young raccoon wandering aimlessly in the parking lot, being closely followed by a cat.”

“To make matters worse, the young raccoon’s head was stuck inside of a metal can, Smith said. “Animal Control Officer Chris Smith quickly responded and was able to secure the raccoon and remove the can from its head. The raccoon did not appear to have any injuries. It was released in a nearby wooded area.”
