Results Of Distracted Driving Enforcement Campaign In Hamden
Hamden Police announce the results of the latest distracted driving campaign targeting motorists who text and drive.

The Hamden Police Department issued nearly 870 total infractions during the recent “U DRIVE U TEXT U PAY” campaign, which was held in conjunction with the Connecticut Department of Transportation. The distracted driving enforcement campaign was an effort to deter motorists from texting and talking on their cell phones while driving, according to police.
Hamden Police participated in the campaign between April 4 and April 29. Officers were stationed in various locations, including Dixwell Avenue, Whitney Avenue, State Street and Mix Avenue, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.(To sign up for Hamden breaking news alerts and more, click here.)
The results of the enforcement campaign are as follows:

- 845 infractions were issued for cell phone use/distracted driving
- 10 infractions were issued for operating an unregistered motor vehicle
- 8 infractions were issued for operating without a license
- 2 infractions were issued for a seat belt violation
- 1 infraction was issued for failure to surrender license
- (A total of 866 infractions were issued)
In addition, Hamden Police issued six misdemeanor summons for various motor vehicle violations.
“With regards to criminal activity, Hamden Police arrested two individuals for drug charges,” Smith said in a press release. “Another person was arrested on the strength of an outstanding warrant.”
