Road Closure Announced For Juneteenth Event In Hamden
The Hamden MLK Mural will be unveiled rain or shine, and officials announced a venue change for the Juneteenth Celebration.
HAMDEN, CT — The unveiling of Hamden’s MLK39 Racial Equity Mural will be unveiled on Saturday, June 17, rain or shine, officials said in an update Friday.
“Rain or Shine, the unveiling happens tomorrow,” officials wrote in a post on Facebook. “In the case of rain, tents and chairs will be set up outside for the ceremony. For everyone’s safety, in the event of thunderstorms and lightning, we will move the ceremony indoors to Thornton Wilder Hall. The Juneteenth event will directly follow the unveiling ceremony at Thornton Hall as well.”
The MLK mural unveiling will take place from 12 noon to 1 p.m.

Officials also announced the following road closure for Saturday, June 16:
Dixwell Avenue will be closed from 11 a.m. to approximately 2p.m. on the northern end at the intersection with Whitney Avenue and on the southern end at the intersection with Evergreen Avenue.

“Police officers will be placed at the road closure sites to direct traffic,” officials wrote. “Entrance to the Library Parking Lot will be permitted at the Evergreen Ave closure site. Please inform police offers that you will be attending the Mural unveiling and/or Juneteenth Celebration.”
Officials previously announced that the town’s Juneteenth Celebration festivities were being moved from Town Center Park to indoors at Thornton Wilder Hall in the Miller Cultural Complex at the Miller Library at 2901 Dixwell due to the rain in the forecast.
