Sacred Heart Academy Announces New Mascot, Athletic Branding

The school's sports teams, long known as the Pacers, will unveil the new logo on Friday.

HAMDEN, CT — After long being known as the Pacers, Sacred Heart Academy announces its new athletic branding and mascot… the SHArks have arrived.

In honor of the school’s 70th anniversary, Sacred Heart will unveil its new athletic branding at an all-school assembly on Friday.

Designers Hope Whitley Foster (Class of 2012) and Elizabeth Parker of E.P. Graphic Design will be on hand to present the new branding and mascot to the student body.

School officials say that during the 2015-16 school year, students and alumnae were surveyed and overwhelming felt it was time for a new athletic brand/mascot. Student Council President Katie Mackey of Cheshire (Class of 2017) spearheaded the change.

The school was originally known as the “Hearts” before changing to the Pacers.
