1 Killed, 1 Critically Injured In Route 15 Shooting In Hamden: PD

The identity of the deceased has been released by authorities. One side of the highway remains closed Sunday afternoon.

HAMDEN, CT — One person was killed, while another person suffered critical injuries in a shooting that occurred on Route 15 in Hamden Sunday morning, state police said. A third person was also injured, state police said.

At 2:23 a.m. Sunday, Troopers responded to a report of individuals in a vehicle who had sustained gunshot wounds, on Route 15 southbound in the area of Exit 60, in Hamden.

Upon arrival, Troopers located an individual in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, Adrian Lopez, 23, of Bridgeport, with an apparent gunshot wound, who was pronounced deceased at the scene, state police said. Three additional vehicle occupants were transported by ambulance to Yale New Haven Hospital.

The Central District Major Crime Squad (CDMC) responded to assume the investigation. This appears to be an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public, state police said.

Both the north and southbound lanes of Route 15 from Exit 60 to Exit 59 have been shut down all morning. The northbound side of the highway reopened around 1 p.m. while the southbound side reopened around 3 p.m.

Qualon Wilkes, 22, of, Bridgeport, was critically injured and Taquan Donald, 20, of Bridgeport, was also injured, state police said. A fourth person was uninjured.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Anyone with information or who has a vehicle equipped with a dashcam and was driving through the area at the time of the incident is asked to contact CDMC Troop I at (203)393-4243. All calls will remain confidential.
