Suspect Flees on Foot into Stolen Vehicle While Talking to Officer: Hamden Police

A 14-year-old, who was also talking with the officer at 3:30 a.m., and didn't flee and was arrested as the investigation continues.

HAMDEN, CT — A suspect, who had been talking with a Hamden police officer, fled on foot and entered a vehicle that was earlier reported stolen during the early morning hours last Thursday.

On Aug. 18 at approximately 3:30a.m., Officer Eric Hallstrom was engaged in a conversation with two individuals, in the area of Davis Street and Franklin Road, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said moments later, one of the individuals fled on foot and entered a motor vehicle that was stolen earlier on Still Hill Road.

Shortly thereafter, New Haven Police located the stolen vehicle, which was involved in an accident on Winchester Avenue. The stolen vehicle was unoccupied, according to Smith.

Hamden Police arrested a 14-year-old New Haven resident, the individual that did not flee on foot, on charges of conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny and possession of burglar tools. He is scheduled to appear in Juvenile Court in New Haven on Sept. 2.
