Teen, 14, Charged In Robbery Of Woman In Store Parking Lot: Hamden PD

The woman was injured when teens in a stolen car grabbed her purse in the store parking lot, according to police.

HAMDEN, CT — A 14-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the robbery of a woman in a store parking lot last week in Hamden, according to police.

Police responded to Price Rite at 1869 Dixwell Avenue around 8 p.m. on July 19 on the report of a street robbery, according to Sgt. Angela Vey.

Officer Joseph Seagren arrived at the scene and spoke with the victim, who suffered from a cut on her forehead, Vey said. The victim said that she was walking toward Price Rite when a vehicle came up from behind her, according to Vey.

The victim said that the driver, a young male, reached out of the vehicle and grabbed her purse which caused her to fall to the ground, according to Vey.

Seagren was later advised by the victim that her credit card was used at a store in Hamden. Seagren responded to the store and obtained photos of the suspects, according to Vey.

With the assistance of the New Haven Police Department, Vey said Seagren obtained the license plate for the vehicle, which had been stolen about two hours earlier out of New Haven.

Seagren was also able to identify a passenger in the vehicle, according to Vey.

Vey said Detective Jenisse Perez-Hernandez assumed the investigation and was assisted by Fairfield Police department in identifying the suspects.

The 14-year-old male juvenile was issued a juvenile summons and charged with conspiracy to commit second-degree robbery, second-degree larceny and credit card theft, according to Vey. He was given a court date of July 31 at New Haven Superior Court for Juvenile Matters.

Vey said the investigation “remains open and active.”
