Teen, 19, Stole Car Out Of Edge Fitness Parking Lot: Hamden Police

Police say the suspect took the car keys out a gym bag in an unlocked locker.

HAMDEN, CT — A 19-year-old Hamden resident is accused of stealing a car out of the Edge Fitness Center parking lot with keys that were taken out of a gym bag in an unlocked locker, according to police.

Hamden Police responded to the Edge Fitness Center, located at 2300 Dixwell Avenue, at about 12:30 a.m. on Feb. 2 on the report of a stolen vehicle, according to Sgt. Anthony Diaz.

Diaz said investigation revealed that the complainant entered the fitness center to work out and when he left the facility, he noticed that his vehicle was not in the parking lot. A subsequent search of his gym bag revealed that his keys were missing.

Further investigation had revealed that the man’s keys were taken from his gym bag that was in an unlocked locker, according to Diaz.

Officer Luis Rivera conducted the investigation, which led to an arrest warrant application that was approved by the court.

Justin Born, 19, of Whitney Avenue in Hamden, was arrested March 10 on a warrant and charged with second-degree larceny. He was held on a $10,000 bond with a court date of March 24 at Meriden Superior Court.
