Teen Charged In Carjacking That Injured Woman, 74, In Hamden: Police
Police said the 16-year-old violently threw the woman to the ground from behind as she was putting items into her car after shopping.
HAMDEN, CT — A 16-year-old New Haven resident has been arrested in connection with a carjacking that seriously injured a 74-year-old woman at the Hamden Plaza in March, according to police.
Police responded to the Hamden Plaza, 2100 Dixwell Ave., around 3 p.m. on March 18 on the report of a carjacking, according to Detective Sean J. Dolan.
Dolan said the victim was putting her purchases into the car when she was violently thrown to the ground from behind. She was taken to the hospital with a serious hip injury, according to Dolan.

The Hamden Police Department Major Crimes Unit conducted an extensive investigation that found that three suspects fled in the victim’s vehicle from the shopping center, Dolan said.
The suspects arrived in another stolen vehicle, which was recovered by police at the crime scene, and police in New Haven later recovered the victim’s vehicle, according to Dolan.

Dolan said the 16-year-old was identified as the suspect who threw the victim to the ground and stole her vehicle.
Police later secured an arrest warrant for his arrest. The court ordered the juvenile be issued a juvenile summons with a promise to appear in New Haven Superior Court for Juvenile Matters, according to Dolan.
The teen was arrested Sunday and charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree larceny. He was assigned a court date of May 12.
