Teens Caught Burglarizing Vehicles In Hamden: Police

An alert neighbor notified police and helped locate the suspects.

HAMDEN, CT — An alert neighbor helped police locate three suspected car burglars late Sunday night in Hamden. At about 11 p.m. on Sept. 17, Hamden Police responded to the area of Albert Road on the report of tampering with motor vehicles, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said investigation revealed that a concerned citizen observed three individuals forcibly enter a neighbor’s motor vehicle. The concerned citizen assisted police in locating the individuals on Brook Street, according to Smith. (To sign up for Hamden breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

Smith said officers subsequently determined that a vehicle that was parked on Albert Road had been burglarized and money was stolen from the vehicle.

Police arrested two juveniles, both New Haven residents, and charged them with third-degree burglary and criminal attempt to commit sixth-degree larceny. They are both scheduled to appear in Juvenile Court in New Haven on Oct. 2.

Romel Brown, 18, of Wayfarer Street in New Haven, was also arrested and charged with simple trespass and criminal attempt to commit sixth-degree larceny. Brown, who was released on a written promise to appear, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Oct. 2.
