Threat Closes Hamden High School On Friday, Dec. 3
Officials said the school would be closed "out of an abundance of caution" as the threat is investigated.

HAMDEN, CT — Hamden High School will be closed on Friday, Dec. 3 due to a threat made against the school, according to officials.
Superintendent Jody Ian Goeler announced in a post on Twitter that the school would be closed “out of an abundance of caution” to allow police and the administration to “work together to investigate a threat made to the school.”
School officials received a tip around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday about a threat at Hamden High School regarding “potential gun violence,” according to Detective Sean J. Dolan.

Dolan said police immediately launched an investigation into the online threat.
The decision to close the school on Friday was made in conjunction with Hamden school officials, Mayor Lauren Garrett’s office and the police department, according to Dolan.

The Hamden Police Department has increased its presence at Hamden High School "over the past few weeks and will continue with those efforts,” according to Dolan.
Dolan said additional police patrols will also monitor Hamden schools throughout town.
“I want to thank the Hamden Police Department and Hamden school officials for their swift response to ensure the safety of our students and staff,” Garrett said in a statement. “I am committed to the safety of our schools and I take every threat seriously. Our Police department is actively investigating this incident and I have every confidence in our school administration to keep our children safe.
“I applaud the students who were proactive about their safety and reached out to the police, administration, and parents about this threat.”
