Car Goes Over Embankment on Route 15 in Hamden: UPDATE
Hamden firefighters extricated two people from the car and stabilized the vehicle to prevent it from falling off the retaining wall.

HAMDEN, CT — Hamden Firefighters extricated two people from a car that went over an embankment on Route 15 on Tuesday afternoon.
Firefighters were dispatched to the scene on the northbound side of Route 15 near Exit 61, Whitney Avenue, at about 1 p.m.
Squad 1 and Rescue 1 arrived on scene and began patient treatment and vehicle stabilization, according to Deputy Fire Chief Gary Merwede.

Merwede said additional companies were dispatched to assist in the rescue and prevent the car from falling off the retaining wall.
Connecticut State Police closed down the traffic lane closest to the accident and reduced the traffic flow on Route 15 North to a single lane.

The vehicle had two occupants, including a male driver and female passenger.
Both patients were extricated within 15 minutes of arrival and were transported to YNHH via AMR for treatment and evaluation, according to Merwede.
Merwede said the extent of their injuries did not appear to be life threatening.
The cause of the accident is under investigation by Connecticut State Police.
