Traffic Tickets On The Rise In Hamden
Enforcement statistics have increased significantly in recent months as police work to crack down on unsafe driving and speeding.

HAMDEN, CT — If it seems to you that Hamden police are pulling over more drivers and handing out more traffic tickets – you’re right. In the months of May through July of this year, the Hamden Police Department issued 107 written warnings, 579 verbal warnings, 526 infraction tickets, and 48 total misdemeanor charges.
In total, these increased enforcement statistics represent a 435-percent increase in written warnings issued, a 119-percent hike in verbal warnings, a 138-percent increase in infractions issued, and a 167-percent hike in total misdemeanor charges over the same time period in 2016.

Additionally, Hamden also experienced similar increases in the month of August, known as “distracted driver month.”

In August of 2017, police issued 45 more written warnings, 105 more verbal warnings, 212 more infractions, and eight more misdemeanor charges during the same time period last year.
Commenting on the numbers, Mayor Curt Leng said: “Hamden’s residents deserve to be safe within their neighborhoods. I have participated in many community discussions and one of the most common topics discussed is that of unsafe driving and speeding.
“We will continue to have a presence in our neighborhoods, from north to south, east to west, enforcing the law and working to reduce the number of unsafe drivers,” Leng said.
