“We are very excited to bring the Val Ramos Flamenco Ensemble to our students and to the public,” said Aileen Dever, professor of Spanish and chair of the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures. “These artists bring a truly historical blend of cultures through dance, guitar and song that will transport you to Andalusia in southern Spain.”
The ensemble has released three albums of original Flamenco music and song, and has been featured at major international music festivals, including the International Festival of Arts and Ideas, the Regattabar Spring Jazz Festival, the Litchfield Jazz Festival, the Levitt Pavilion Summer Concert Series, the Summerwind Concert Series and the Guitar Under the Stars Festival.
In July 2005, the ensemble toured Spain under the auspices of the U.S. Embassy there. It has also performed as a quartet in Puerto Rico. The ensemble has been featured at numerous campus venues, National Public Radio in the U.S. and Radio Nacional Española in Spain.
The ensemble has performed with internationally renowned Grammy singers, including the legendary Celia Cruz and Danny Rivera, as well as some of the best flamenco artists from Spain and the U.S.
