Victim, 11, ‘Viciously’ Assaulted By Group Of Teens: Hamden Police

Police say two of teens recorded the attack while the victim was being beaten.

HAMDEN, CT — An 11-year-old Hamden resident was “viciously” assaulted by four 13-year-olds and taken to the hospital with head and facial injuries on Friday evening, according to police. At about 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 15, Hamden Police responded to the area of Pine Rock Avenue and Helen Street on the report of an assault, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said investigation revealed that an 11-year-old Hamden resident was viciously assaulted by four 13-year-old youths. A witness observed the four juveniles “throw” the 11-year-old victim onto the sidewalk and then “stomp” on his head. (To sign up for Hamden breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

“As the victim was being beaten, two of the juveniles filmed the attack,” Smith said in a press release. “During the assault, the juveniles asked the victim if he had a cell phone and his sneaker size.”

The victim, who suffered head and facial injuries, was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital by American Medical Response.

Shortly thereafter, the four juveniles were located walking on Elmer Avenue by Sgt. Michael Doherty, according to Smith. They were all charged with third-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace. They are scheduled to appear in Juvenile Court in New Haven on Sept. 28.
