Victim Pistol-Whipped In Street Robbery: Hamden Police
Police are investigating an armed street robbery that occurred in Hamden on Monday night.

HAMDEN, CT — Police are investigating an armed street robbery in which the victim was struck several times in the head with a gun Monday night in Hamden. At about 9 p.m. on Sept. 18, Hamden Police responded to the area of Fairview Avenue and Fitch Street on the report of an armed street robbery, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.
Smith said investigation revealed that a 23-year-old male was walking eastbound on Arch Street when he was approached by an individual, described as a black male, 5-feet, 9-inches tall, 175 pounds, who was wearing a black-hooded sweatshirt. The individual “ripped” a chain off the victim’s neck, while displaying a firearm, according to Smith. The suspect then stole the victim’s cellphone.

Smith said a physical altercation ensued, at which time the suspect struck the victim several times in the head with the firearm. The victim suffered injuries to his head and eye.
The suspect was last seen fleeing on foot on Arch Street.
